Conventional Oil

Conventional engine oil is derived from crude oil and is less expensive compared to synthetic oil. It provides effective lubrication for the engine, helping to reduce friction and wear. However, conventional oil typically requires more frequent oil changes due to its shorter lifespan and may not perform as well under extreme temperatures or heavy loads. It is important to follow Mercedes-Benz recommendations for oil change intervals on your particular vehicle.

Synthetic Oil Change

Synthetic oil is artificially produced and offers superior performance and protection for Mercedes-Benzngines. Most modern vehicles recommend using synthetic engine oil. It is engineered to last longer and provide better protection against engine wear, making it more suitable for vehicles that undergo intense driving conditions or high-performance applications. Although synthetic oil is generally more expensive than conventional oil per quart, it can result in longer intervals between oil changes, meaning less trips to the dealership.

Signs You Need Oil Change

If you're in the South Bend area and you're wondering if your Mercedes-Benz needs an oil change; there are several signs that indicate that it's time to get an oil change. Here are some common signs to watch out for:

Dashboard warning light: Mercedes-Benz vehicles have an oil change reminder light on the dashboard that will illuminate when it's time for an oil change. It will also show you a percentage of oil life left.
Dark or dirty oil: If you check the oil dipstick and notice that the oil is dark, gritty, or has a burnt smell, it's time for an oil change. Clean oil is typically amber or light brown in color.
Engine noise: If you hear unusual engine noise, such as knocking or ticking sounds, it could be a sign that your engine is not getting proper lubrication due to dirty or degraded oil.
Reduced fuel efficiency: If you notice a drop in fuel efficiency, it could be due to dirty or degraded oil causing your engine to work harder than it should.
Mileage: Mercedes-Benz recommends getting an oil change every 7,500 miles or once a year if you drive less. If you can't remember the last time you had an oil change, it's probably time to schedule one.

Regular oil changes are an essential part of vehicle maintenance and can help keep your engine running smoothly and efficiently. If you notice any of these signs, our Mercedes-Benz ASE-certified technicians here at Gurley Leep Mercedes-Benz will provide quality service to avoid potential damage to your engine.
